Getting UK Documents Attested for the UAE

Old and new British passports

The UAE requires expatriates to submit attested legal documents if they are to obtain a residential visa. Entrepreneurs must submit attested commercial documents, including contracts and licenses, and job-seekers and students need to submit attested educational certificates.

International workers who want to bring their families with them to the UAE will have to apply for a family residence visa, for which they’re required to submit attested marriage certificates for their spouse and attested birth certificates for their children.

The UAE has a growing population of UK nationals who are looking to take advantage of the lucrative employment opportunities in the country. To legally move to the UAE, however, UK nationals must get their legal documents attested.

Here’s what the UK document attestation process involves:

Two-Step Process in the UK

UK document attestation is a two-step process in the home country.

Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO)

The UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) will provide an Apostille Stamp to show that the documents are genuine.

UAE Embassy in London

Once the documents receive an Apostille Stamp, they need to be submitted to the UAE embassy in London.

What Documents Need To Be Attested

Each type of visa issued by the UAE has a list of required documents—all of which need to be attested.

Depending on the type of visa you’re applying for, you’ll need to submit attested marriage certificates, birth certificates, educational certificates, or company registration documents.

Hiring Professional Attestation Services

Because the document attestation process is so complicated, it’s best to hire professional attestation services; this way, you don’t have to do all the running around yourself.

Attestation companies collect documents for clients. Documents are sent to their company’s associates in the UK and are handed over to a UK solicitor (not always required) for authentication.

The documents will then be legalized by the FCO before being submitted to the UAE embassy in London.

Once the UAE embassy attests them, they will be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) for the final stage of attestation.

Working with an attestation company will make things significantly easier for you.
